"Drawing has always been important to me, and it was drawing that first sparked my interest in art. With time, other materials and techniques took over, and drawing became more of a tool in the form of sketching material than something I presented. It was only during the last few years that I truly found my way back to drawing as an art form.
The series of images I present are based on experiences from a psychotic episode. Creating images of what I've been through is a way of processing my memories of this episode, and of communicating things that are hard to describe in words. I don't know what the images will become at the outset – their expression emerges during the drawing process. Squared paper offers a way to escape my fear of the blank, white sheet of paper, and gives me a point of departure. I often use collage techniques in combination with drawing, enabling me to draw small parts of images that I then arrange into a form of the whole."
